History of Rotary Club of Bardhaman Heritage

It was in the month of April, 2006, when District Governor Rtn. Kalpana Khound (2005-06) and DGE Rtn. Samir Kr. Chowdhury recognized the status of RC Bardhaman Heritage as a member of RID-3240. RI President Carl W Stenhammer undersigned our club charter certificate. The club was sponsored by RC Burdwan South.

Late Rtn. Monobroto Roy was the chartered president (26th April, 2006 – 30th June, 2007) of the club with other 20 vibrant chartered members.

President elect for RY 2025-26 is Rtn. Dr. Tarashankar Malik.

Out of 18 members, number of Paul Harris fellows till date counted to 9 and Rotarian donors counted to 16 and total giving USD 23924. In the RY 2024-25, all donors participated in Polio Plus Programme.

 

Service partners

The club has two RCCs, Saota Kadambari Pathagar Sandha and Sardanga Boys and various NGOs both in urban and rural belt.

 

Club Administration

Club has its own by-laws (adapted and amended time to time) and constitution in compliance with RI guidelines. Club also has its own strategic plan of action.

 

Significant Achievements

After the completion of first year, with strong fellowship and its commitment service, the club achieved multiple significant district awards, two certificates of appreciation from Rotary International in addition to RI Citation in the Rotary year 2007-08 under the able leadership of President Rtn. Chandi Charan Mondal.

Since then almost in every year, the club earned RI Citation and District Governor Citation.

In the year 2022-23, the club, for the first time, became the EREY Club and various district awards including RI Citation and Governor Citations under the Presidentship of Rtn. Md. Mahidul Islam.

In the year 2023-24, the club implemented two District Sponsored District Grant Projects and carried forward the ongoing projects to 2024-25.

 

All-time Signature Projets

  • Blood Donation : During every Rotary year, the club organizes 3 – 5 blood donation camps. On an average 400 units of blood are collected.
  • Water & Sanitation : Since covid period, the club focused on the projects in this area. For example, during this Rotary year, the club organized seven seminars on water and sanitation, menstruation and hygiene management system and already distributed eight sanitary vending machines to different institutions mostly in rural belt.
  • Women Empowerment : The club undertakes various programmes for empowering women and social justice. Recently two seminars has been organized by the club on women empowerment.
  • Basic Education & Literacy : Since Covid period, the club has been donating smartphones to the needy students of rural belt availing various online classes. Recently the club has donated desks and benches to Polempur FP School, Purba Bardhaman and made a smartclass by sponsoring a computer.
  • Economy and community development : Extended various service projects mostly in rural belts.
  • Disaster response since COVID period : Continued.

Disease Prevention and treatment : Organises seminars on prevention of cervical cancer, thalassemia, COPD etc.
